YEOVIL Town gave Premier League opponents West Bromwich Albion a real test last night at Huish Park in the Second Round of the Capital One Cup.
Although Albion's Premier class showed in the end, Gary Johnson's battling Glovers' gave their more illustrious visitors a good match.
So much so that Yeovil took the lead when Reuben Reid, himself having spent a year-and-a-half with the Baggies earlier in his career, netted after 15 minutes with a header.
West Brom drew level in the 39th minute when Chris Brunt struck a well-hit shot past Yeovil keeper Marek Stech from outside the box.
And then the visitors took a 2-1 lead on the stroke of half-time when Stech spilled a catch and Shane Long was able to capitalise.
But Yeovil came out fighting in the second period and Reid drew the Glovers level just moments after the re-start.
Reid nearly gave Yeovil the lead with a couple of efforts, while at the other end there was one amazing moment when Stech parried a shot from Markus Rosenberg and then centre-half Richard Hinds cleared off the line from Yassine El Ghanassy with the follow-up.
But Albion regained the initiative in the 73rd minute when El Ghanassy scored with a shot through a crowded area with his effort taking a big deflection which gave Stech no chance.
And then Long netted his second of the evening in the 81st minute to seal the victory for Albion.
Yeovil can take heart from the fact that they held Albion for three quarters of the match, but in the end Premier class shone through.
But at least the Glovers can now concentrate on the league and the Yeovil fans in the 6,228 crowd probably went home knowing that the result was a fair one.
