AVISHAYES Falcons hosted Ilchester Predators on Saturda in the third round of the cup and needed penalties to get past their visitors.
Falcons started well but despite putting their opponents under sustained pressure it was Predators who scored first. The home side kept pushing forward though and were soon rewarded as Matthew Quayle headed home from a corner kick to level the scores just before the interval.
Predators came out stronger in the second half and after some end-to-end football the visitors regained the lead with a strike from close range. As the clock ran down it looked like Predators were home and dry but Falcons levelled with less than a minute to go as Matty Bawler broke clear and fired the equaliser high into the net.
The score remained level after extra time and in the ensuing penalty shoot-out Falcons keeper Aron Lewis was the hero, saving three out of four penalties as Avishayes won 3-1. Falcons penalty scorers were Luke Young, Andre Anjos and Cameron Putt and the man of the match award went to Luke Young.
