Chard Town shipped six goals as they were beaten by Staplegrove in the Somerset County Premier Division.

The Robins scored twice in the first half on Saturday (September 28) but ultimately lost to a clinical Staplegrove side.

Chard Town went into the game on the back of losing three out of the last five in the league, but they had won in the Premier and First Division Cup last time out.

The Robins got off the perfect start when the high press worked and Jordan Clapp was able to hit a volley into the net.

The lead did not last long however as Staplegrove equalised on eight minutes.

Twenty minutes in, Chard were back in front from the penalty spot. Conor Fielder was taken down and Clapp showed composure to convert the spot kick.

On the half hour it was 2-2 however and 10 minutes later Chard were forced into a substitution as Finlay Downes came off and Tom Boyland went on.

On the stroke of half time, Staplegrove scored their third goal and that was the score at half time.

It took the hosts only two minutes in the second half to increase their lead to 4-2 and it was five eight minutes later.

Staplegrove added a sixth making it a tough afternoon for Chard Town.

Despite the result, Chard currently sit in nineth place with four wins, a draw and five defeats and are only four points from the top five.

The Robins have something of an extended break before their next fixture against Bishop Sutton away from home. Their opponents are currently 12th in the league but did put five past Chard at Zembards Lane earlier in the season.

Chard are next at home against Worle – who they beat in the cup last week - on October 26.

In between, they play Yatton & Cleeve United away.
