Chard Town secured what they believe is a vital three points with victory over Somerton at Zembard Lane.

They came into this fixture on the back of a defeat and a draw to kick-off the 2024-25 season.

So three points was a must on Saturday (August 10) to get back to winning ways.

Again player availability was an issue for Chard, Joe Chamberlain and Tim Legg have left, Jordon Clapp was unavailable and Cruz has a broken thumb. The good news was James Boyland was 'back in Town'.

Playing down the slope in the first half it only took seven minutes for Chard to score the first goal - a great finish by Conor Fielder.

On 17 minutes, a ball over the top of the defence for James Boyland to score his first goal of the season.

With five minutes left, Boyland had the ball at his feet and with an impossible angle managed to get the ball onto the far post and into the net.

At half time it was 3-0 to Chard Town.

Somerton played some good football and Chard were caught out a couple of times but the visitors could not find the back of the net.

Chard pressed and on 68 minutes, Will Board forced a mistake from the defender and put the ball into the net.

On 73 minutes, Tom Boyland came on and replaced Conor Fielder and what an impact he made, five minutes later he created a space and put a great shot on target only for the keeper to get hands on it, Will Board pounced on the ball, but blazed it wide.

With full time looming,  James Boyland had the ball at his feet again on 83 minutes and chipped the ball into the net for his hatrick.

A spokesman for the club said: "A great performance again from everyone led by Captain Alex Manley who was playing as a centre back."

On Tuesday (August 13) the club were due to face Wells City Reserves away before a home game against Fry Club on Saturday.
