Wembdon Cricket Club continue to close in on a league title and promotion after a comfortable victory at Chard.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, setting Chard 249 to win. Chard were bowled out for 135 giving Wembdon a 113-run win on the same day second-placed Taunton and third-placed Temple Cloud also won.

Having chosen to bat, the opening pair of Harry Everett and Will Anning put on 97 for the first wicket before the later was bowled by Jonathon Legg, having scored 38 runs.

The second wicket came with the score on 128 as Sam Puddy was caught by Dominic Williams off the bowling of Oliver Legg for 28.

Everett and new batsman Lohanb De Zoysa put on just 17 when Everett was finally out, trapped lbw by Jon Dalwood.

Jon Brockwell was the next man out, caught by Malcolm Cloete off the bowling of Dalwood for 22.

De Zoysa was joined at the crease by Harry Love and they put on a 43-run stand for the fifth wicket before Love by Dalwood’s latest victim.

The last five wickets fell for a total of 17 runs, with Wembdon all out for 248.

Jon Dalwood finished on figures of 6-46 for Chard.

In response, Chard had scored just nine runs when they lost their first wicket, as Nathan Warren was bowled by Brendan Pope.

No runs were added when Harvey Evans joined him in the Pavilion, having been caught by Liam Pigden off Pope for a golden duck.

In came Nathan Johnson and along with Jonathon Legg, they put on 35 for the third wicket. Legg was stumped by Pigden off the bowling of De Zoysa for 16.

97-4 became 98-5 as Malcolm Cloete was out for 29. 25 runs later it was 123-6 as Jonathan Scott was out for 11.

The last four wickets fell for 12 runs handing Wembdon the victory.

Wembdon bowler James Baker picked up 5-36 while Harry Everett and Brendan Pope picked up two each.

Wembdon picked up 20pts and Chard 6 pts.

Chard are next in action  away at Bridgwater on August 10 while Wembdon face third-placed Temple Cloud away.
