On Tuesday (July 30), the seniors match team of Cricket St Thomas golf club entertained the seniors from Mendip Springs golf club in their final match in the Avalon league, In what was to be a tense match.
Kevin Barry & Mark Cording began with an emphatic win by 6&5.
This was followed by a win for Danny Dowell & Martyn Jewel by 3&1.
Fortunes were then reversed with John Baker & Jim Laughlan going down by 2&1 This was followed by a defeat for Rob Shelley & Mark Kilpatrick who went down by 3&2.
However, the final pairing of John Wandless & Dave Mugridge were successful in winning their game by 4 & 3, thus securing victory by 3 - 2.
This result meant that the match points went in favour of the Saints team by 8 points to 6, After completing all 10 matches the Cricket St Thomas seniors achieved a total of 104.5 points, comfortably winning the league and very likely to win the best overall average score across all 11 Avalon leagues.
