Chard Cricket Club seconds have made it through to the final of the minor knockout cup after a five-wicket victory over Bishops Hull at home.

The team now has a final to look forward to at the Cooper Associates County Ground against Blagdon.

Bishops Hull CC won the toss and elected to bat and made a promising start, scoring 65 when the first wicket fell as Josh Chanter was caught by Liam Cleal off the bowling of Neil Wyatt.

Chard then took four more wickets for just 33 additional runs and Bishops Hull finished on 145-6. Benjamin Riley took 2-17 in his four overs and Neil Wyatt took 1-18.

Chard’s batting innings began disastrously as Andrew Clancy was out for a duck, just two balls in, having been bowled by Brad Lock.

Josh Short, who went on to anchor the innings, was joined by Liam Cleel and they put on 36 together before Cleal was also bowled by Lock.

Danny Cleal helped to stabilise the innings as he and Short put on a 70-run partnerships before Cleal was trapped lbw by Dan Chanter.

Andrew Sochon was then out for a single run as he was caught by James Tolman off the bowling of Chanter.

Yousiah Shazad was then also out for one leaving the score on 131-5 but ultimately, Chard won with seven balls to spare.

Josh Short was not out on 61 with six fours and two sixes. George Best was not out on 14.
