Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South: Castle Cary 74-21 Chard II
Chard were well beaten by a well organised Castle Cary team in a rearranged fixture on Saturday after the original fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Chard did manage to score the opening try of the match and the last try of the game but although they battled hard, they had no answer to some big physical and talented players on the home side.
Huw Edwards scored a good opening try for Chard which was converted by Billy Vernon and although Fin Shoemark added a second try midway through the half which Vernon also converted, Cary reached the interval leading by 38-14 after scoring six tries and four conversions. Chard lost several players to injury which certainly didn’t help their cause.
The home forwards provided their backs with an unlimited amount of ball in the second half which allowed them to cross for six more tries of which three were converted but Chard kept going and their spirited performance was rewarded with a late try from Shoemark again converted by Vernon.
Next Saturday Chard 1st xv are away at Wadebridge and the 2nd team are at home to Crewkerne with both games kicking off at 3pm.
