Honiton Hornets 5-1 Chard Hockey Club Ladies 1st
Chard were buzzing to get the game started having travelled away to play Honiton Hornets.
With a few players missing, Chard had to play a few players out of position; however, this didn’t reflect into the first fifteen minutes of play where Chard battled hard and the game looked evenly matched.
Unfortunately Hornets were first to break when a scrabble in the D led to a deflection into the goal. Hornets, encouraged by their first goal got a quick second with a quick 1-2.
After an enthused half time talk from Amy Goss and the introduction of strawberry laces to the sweet pot, Chard came out strong. A strong ball out of midfield from Layla found Kez who drove it forward to Sasha in the D who effortlessly beat the Hornet keeper to make it 2-1.
Unfortunately the attacking play didn’t stay in Chard’s favour and despite valiant efforts from Chard’s back line and keeper Hannah McGown (including a superb lunging save across the goal) the score ended 5-1.
Player of the match went jointly to Sasha Taylor and Lois Butcher for her excellent play in new right back position.
