West Area Men's Division 2: University of Exeter 7s 0-3 Chard
CHARD Hockey Club Men's Firsts travelled back down to Exeter looking to continue a 12 game run without losing.
Missing a couple of regulars due to the half term break, Chard were looking to start the game with the same intensity as they have come accustom to.
The breakthrough came at the 12th minute mark when Bertie Lupton sent in a ball in from the left wing, cleverly flicked on by Evans on to a full length dive from Willis to take the lead.
Chard doubled their lead in a short period of time, with some quick thinking from Max Beale intercepting a pass from the Exeter centre back. Beale then ran the ball into the D and then unleashed a rocket of a shot which was too fast for the goalkeeper to react.
Chard went into the half 2-0 up, Captain Danny Grabham asked the team to push on in the second half to put this game to bed.
Throughout the match Chard picked up four green cards meaning for large parts they were playing with a man, or at some times two men down.
With Chard back to full strength, Looking for a third goal, Beale found Batten on the right who then on the reverse picked out Willis in the box who’s initial shot was saved only to be followed up but Matt Sheahan who dispatched his shot into the roof of the net to extend Chards lead.
Chard went on to win the game and with results going in their favour moving back into third in the league.
Chard will face Sidmouth and Ottery next week looking to continue a great run of form.
