AT the weekend of home games at Chard Hockey Club were postponed due to a frozen pitch however the teams playing away still had a game on.
First off, the Men's Third's team took on Taunton Vale Fourths in their match and came close to causing an upset, but the end result was 2-1.
Chard came close to grabbing a point from this game, pulling a goal back as their youthful forwards finally made telling use of the wings and Vale's veterans began to tire.
Taunton took a two goal lead but in the final quarter, Chard finally began to stretch the home side with some slick approach play down both wings.
Joel Handscombe topped off his fine performance bundling home the rebound after Sainsbury's initial shot was parried.
It proved to be too little too late, as the final whistle followed a few minutes later.
Elsewhere, the Chard Ladies First team lost narrowly, 1-0 away against Sidmouth & Ottery Seconds.
Chard forced many mistakes through their composure but sadly did not make the most of attacks on the D.
Despite going 1-0 down, they battled on and there was some beautiful passing play and attacks on goal but sadly no ball hit the back of the net.
