Chard Ladies Firsts 3-1 Tiverton White Eagles
CHARD Hockey Club's Ladies First Team finally got their first win of the season against a strong White Eagles Team at the weekend.
White Eagles opened the scoring with a strong short corner strike which snuck in by the post, despite Lois Butcher managing to get a stick to it.
Chard didn’t let their heads drop and continued to work the ball down the pitch. Chard eventually got a goal back following Layla Anderson running through the middle of the pitch and slipping the ball to Kerryn Mullis who pushed the ball past the keeper.
Chard got their second before half-time when Amy Goss ran around the defence and crossed the ball to Lois who smashed the ball into the top of the net.
The first half ended 2.1.
In the second half White Eagles came out fighting and could easily have got a goal back after a series of short corners. Fortunately Lois Butcher was alert on the far post and made several goal line saves to stop White Eagles equalising.
Chard managed to seal the victory when Layla Anderson made a fantastic run through the pitch and struck the ball into the far corner.
A White Eagles defender attempted to stop the shot going in, but ended up pushing it over the line meaning the final score was 3-1.
