THIS week at Cricket St Thomas Golf club saw the culmination of the seniors Ryder Cup competition.
The second leg on Monday was the four ball competition and Captain John Wandless was taking a 4 1/2 - 2 1/2 advantage after last week's Greensomes.
The first four games were shared and when game 5 was won by the Vice captain's team, the lead was reduced to one. Game 6 was halved and with games 6 and 7 being shared, the Captain's team remained at one up. The final two games were also shared, resulting in a lead of 5 1/2 - 4 1/2 in favour of the Vice Captain.
Thus, over the first two challenges, the score was 9 - 8 in favour of the Captain.
The final round of Singles was played on Friday when 18 games were played, The first team to reach 18 wins was to be declared the winner.
The first game was won by the Vice Captain's team to level the match at 9 - 9. The following three games were won by the Captain's team to give him a three point lead but the Vice Captain took the next game to make it 12 -10.
The following 5 games were won by the Captain to put them one short of victory. The Vice Captain was successful at game 14 to provide some hope, but when Bob Barrow sank a putt on the thirteenth green to seal victory over Richard Holmes by 6 & 5, the match was over.
The final 6 games were shared at 3 - 3, and the Captain's team had an overall victory by 21 -14.
