THE busy week for the senior section of the Cricket St Thomas golf club began on Monday when the EGGS played an individual stableford competition.

Section captain Keith Segal taking the honours with a level par round 36 points. John McOmish was runner up with 35 points.

The main body of the seniors travelled to Clevedon to participate in the first round of the Challenge Cup.

In cold weather and drizzling rain Ian Hildred returned a score of 42 points to take first place with John Wandless runner up.

On Tuesday the Saints senior match team travelled to Taunton to compete with Vivary Park in the first round of the Somerset Bowl competition.

In windy conditions,the going was difficult but by the narrowest of margins, the Saints won by 3 - 2.

The full results were: Dowell & Shelley won by 4 & 2, Hinds &Dennett lost by 3 & 2, Cording & Holmes lost by 2 &1 and Wandless & Mugridge won by 1 up.

In benign conditions on Wednesday the seniors held their April stableford competition.

Star of the day was a brilliant round of 4 under par by Norman Markby in Division 2.

Results were in Division 1: James Siabi won on 37 points, followed by Dave Mugridge on 36 points and Dennis Hussey with 35 points.

In Division 2 Norman Markby won with 40 points, Bill Hilton came second with 38 points and Mark Sanders in third on 35 points.

This Saints seniors match team played a friendly against Cannington on Thursday.

In bright sunshine, but with an awkward easterly wind, a tired Saints team capitulated to a 5 - 1 defeat.

The full results were Wandless & Hiam won by 1 hole, Gingell & Asquith lost by 4 & 2, Shelley & Oliver lost by 4 & 2, Laughland & Siabi lost by 1 hole, Mugridge & Baker lost by 5 & 4, Cording & Parkhouse lost by 5 & 4.

Finally, the week closed on Friday with the seniors individual stableford competition.

Dennis Hussey claimed the first place with a three under par round of 39 points managing to beat rival Dave Mugridge into second place by virtue of e better back 9 Barrie Heath won Division 2 with 36 points, beating Chris Basterfield into second place with a better back 9.
