Chard 1sts 4-1 Sidmouth 2nds
After a couple of difficult weeks away to Exe, Chard Firsts got back to winning ways at home against Sidmouth & Ottery.
Coaches Danny Grabham and Nathan Johnson will be pleased that their training is paying off as Chard looked more attacking and determined to get the win.
Chard opened the scoring with Charlotte Mooney picking up the ball in the middle of Chard's attacking half, making a J run around the defence and crossing the ball to Kerryn Mullis who slotted the ball in from the left post.
The opening goal gave Chard the momentum and they continued to put pressure on Sidmouth's defence.
After a series of short corners Chard got their second, as a result of Lola Saxby crossing to May Newbery who was waiting on the far post to strike the ball into the goal.
Shortly after, Chard got their third when an Amy Claire strike was met by Kerryn Mullis who slotted the ball into the goal from mid-air.
For the last 10 minutes of the first half Chard lost their discipline and Sidmouth were able to become more attacking. Sidmouth had several attempts at goal and managed to get one back before half-time.
Chard came out in the second half determined to restore their 3 goal lead. Chard's midfield and defence battled hard and intercepted several of Sidmouths' attempts to get forward.
Chard won a short corner and managed to get their fourth goal, again from May Newbery waiting on the post to push the ball over the line.
Chard continued battling in the second half and could have gained more goals, but Sidmouth defended well and kept the goal score down.
