The season has started for Chard Hockey Club, and the first tournament of the year was for the U14s hosted by Wellington.
With great numbers of boys and girls at training, Chard entered four teams alongside Wellington and two from Taunton C S.
All teams competed well and gained confidence during the morning and this was seen in the results. The boys team won four games with goals coming from Joel Handscomb and Reuben Willis.
The mixed team gained three draws with William Thompson and Nathan Bradshaw on the scoresheet.
The first girls team gained three wins and the second team three draws with good performances from Layla Anderson, Marcie Russell, Evie McCollom, Alice Shepherd, Ruby Parris and Eliza Wakley.
The star of the day was goalkeeper Luke Bradshaw who made numerous saves culminating in a double close range save and getting up to kick clear.
Many thanks to Gary Wheaton and Paul Bradshaw for their umpiring, coaching and sideline help.
