ILMINSTER Bowling Club are celebrating a double triumph following another successful year.
First, Ilminster Bowling and Tennis Club picked up the SASP Somerset Club Of The Year Award 2018, beating off competition from Huish Tigers & Orchard Gymnastics.
The committee were impressed with the club’s open and taster days and the flexible membership options.
This was followed up by the club being named Bowling Club of the Year in England.
The judges were similarly impressed with how the club promote themselves in the press and the five coaches at Ilminster to help new bowlers.
Ilminster’s membership ages range from eight upwards and all are welcome.
This week, Ilminster are attending a seminar on disability sports on bowls to help us encourage new bowlers to join them.
As part of their prize the club will play a match against the England president’s team in the summer of 2019.
The award will be presented to Ilminster in February 2019 - Matt Hamilton will be attending with many other members to collect this award.
Hamilton has been the main driving force behind this award with his forward thinking to bring bowls into 2018 and beyond.
