CHARD U-16s travelled to Westlands in the semi-final of the Mid Wessex Knockout Cup.
On winning the toss, Chard captain Ross Bicknell was keen to have a bowl on what appeared to be a damp wicket. James Mouland and Karl Fletcher both bowled well and were unlucky not to pick up a wicket or two while keeping a lid on the scoring. However, M. Davis (77 n/o) and J. Sibley (44) had the patience to wait for some poor bowling later in the innings, scoring 100 runs in the last ten overs. They finished on an impressive 153-2.
In reply, Chard's scoring rate was never high enough, especially after a tight opening spell from H. Montacute (1-8) and G. Fox (0-8) from their four overs. Danny Cleal's seven-boundary 64 not out brought respectability but it wasn't enough, with Chard finishing on 100-3.
A disappointed team captain Bicknell said "we were beaten by a better team, but we know we can play better."
