FRESH from winning success at the WCSO tennis tournament, Harry Gawen and Rachel Phillimore contributed to another win for Chard C team against Somerton.
Having pipped them in the winter league by one point, this was always going to be a highly competitive match, as a result this match had everything; long rallies, great net play, powerful drives, drop shots and of course bad calls.
This was indeed Chard C's toughest test of the season so far with Somerton bringing a more than a reasonable side out. One of Somerton B's pairings were particularly consistent and held on to win both of their rubbers, but their other pair were not so strong and were beaten more comprehensively, which led Chard having one more set to win the match. Chard's Keith Porter and Sari Brice played beautifully!
This week Chard start their second half of the season against rapidly improving Yeovil who have only lost two matches at the start of the season, and now lie nine points behind. The second half of the season promises some much tougher matches with trips to Wincanton, Weymouth and of course the return trip to Somerton.
