CHARD U12s travelled down to Bruton with two hockey teams to take part in a tournament with other local clubs.
First up were the girls’ team for the morning’s games.
Chard had an unlucky start with a 1-0 loss against Yeovil and Sherborne and, despite fantastic attacks from Ava and Lola, they were unable to equalise.
The second game of the tournament was against a very strong Civil Service side and excellent defensive play from Freya, Edie and George ensured the Yeovil’s goal count was kept at one.
Chard were unable to get the goals they deserved, drawing their last two games 0-0.
Speedy runs down the wing from both Hannah and Thea kept Chard battling and Kacey kept goal for both teams and stepped out again in the afternoon for the boys’ team.
The boys were off to a strong start attacking the Taunton Vale D but, unfortunately, neither of the Georges managed to hit the backboard.
A strong defensive team of Josh, Richard and Logan kept the Taunton Vale attack at bay.
The boys were straight back on the pitch against Taunton Civil Service where keeper Kacey made fantastic saves but a strong opposition attack secured Civil Service the win.
Freya made a star appearance for the boys against home side Bruton and Chard went close to scoring with several attacks in goal being led by winger Monty.
Chard finally got their goal of the tournament against Shepton in their final game from centre midfielder Alec.
However, despite Chard’s efforts, Shepton managed to battle back, scoring a further two.
Special thanks to Rachel Ireland Jones for umpiring.
