DESPITE the bleak outlook on the weather front, the ladies of Windwhistle Golf Club had a busy week.

On May 29, the first of the Tri-matches was held at home. This annual competition involves Chedington, Long Sutton and Windwhistle playing an individual Stableford and after three games the points are totalled to produce the winner overall. The sting in the tail is that only a maximum of three silver ladies can take part in the team but Windwhistle managed to gain a good start to the competition with 182 points. Long Sutton got 174 points and Chedington 171.

Team: Marilyn Tricker, Rita Bassett, Bobby Barnett, Wendy Morris, Shirley Medcraff, Jan Bannister and Kay Holdsworth.

THE following day, a team travelled in the rain to Orchardleigh for the away leg of the Interclub League. After playing a few holes the rain eased to make it more pleasant. Although Windwhistle lost heavily, there were some very close matches going as far as the 17th but the final result was a win for Orchardleigh by six games to one.

Team: Velma Bentley, Janet Stone, Ingrid Birch, June Hutchings, Ruth Dowell, Sheila Ullman and Beth Stubbs.

ON June 2, the second round of the annual County Rogers Cup was held at Enmore Park. A team of seven ladies from Windwhistle took on Long Sutton. The weather could not have been more different than earlier in the week, warm, with sunny blue skies. Windwhistle found it very difficult to produce a winning game, Ruth Dowell being the only one, due mainly to 'giving' so many shots as this format is full difference of handicap. However, the match was played in a very friendly manner and was followed by a very chatty tea.

Team: Katie Bassett, Marilyn Tricker, June Hutchings, Janet Stone, Ruth Dowell, Rita Bassett and Iris Willard.

THE usual Thursday game for the ladies was postponed due to very bad weather conditions and the planned charity Lifeboat Challenge Cup will be played at a later date.
