SOMERSET went into party mood on June 2, 1953, when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey.
Events were held all over the county to mark the momentous occasion.
In Taunton local dignitaries and the town's clergy led a procession to Vivary Park and the festivities were rounded off with a carnival and tattoo attended by thousands of visitors.
Taunton Olde Tyme Dance Club's Coronation ball, with a Commonwealth tableau performed by the children.
There were some fantastic fancy dress costumes on display in Wellington.
And over in Bishops Lydeard, the village held its own coronation after the Carnival Queen was elected.
There was some joy at Somerset County Cricket Club after the team won its first game of the season against Middlesex at Lord's.
Pupils at Huish Episcopi Secondary Modern School had a splashing time when their swimming pool was officially opened.
Across the area, scores of street parties were thrown as communities got together to celebrate.
There were also a number of trees planted in various towns and villages, while most parishes held church services.
