TRIBUTES are being paid to former Somerset County Councillor and South Somerset District Councillor Tim Carroll who has died following a long illness.
Mr Carroll was elected to Somerset County Council in 1993 and served as member for the Wincanton division until 2005.
During his term in office, he acted as portfolio holder for environment and transport on the former executive board.
He was also a member of South Somerset District Council for many years as a Liberal Democrat councillor, including as leader of the authority.
He was an active member of his community and his political party.
County council chairman Cllr Nigel Taylor said: “Tim Carroll was a long serving councillor on both the county and district councils, working tirelessly on behalf of the community.
"I would like to extend my condolences, on behalf of the county council, to his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be much missed.”
Cllr Jane Lock, former leader of the Liberal Democrats on the county council, said: “To have known and worked alongside Tim was a privilege - he was a man of integrity and principle who enriched many lives.
“He was always brave throughout his illness, and he remained positive, if pragmatic.
"For Tim to have passed away so soon after Ann, his wife, must be incredibly painful for his family, my thoughts are with them.”
