A WOMAN police constable checked up on a force computer on a man she was planning to go on a date with, it is claimed.
A misconduct hearing will be told PC Teresa Lines then visited the man, known as Mr W, while on duty.
PC Lines will be accused of breaching the Standards of Professional Behaviour at the hearing at Avon and Somerset Police HQ on Wednesday (June 30).
It is alleged that she accessed police information for a reason unconnected with law enforcement or any other valid policing purpose.
She is accused of then disclosing confidential information about Mr W to her colleagues on June 23 last year.
The following day she is said to have made an entry in her pocket notebook to the effect that she had attended Mr W’s home in order to speak to Mr H, when in fact she knew that she had done so with the sole
intention of meeting Mr W.
It is further claimed that on July 16 last year PC Lines made a false allegation that whoever had reported her for computer misuse had been guided by her immediate supervisors and she thereby failed to treat those colleagues with courtesy or respect.
On the same day and also on August 20, she is accused of stating that checks she had conducted on Mr W were for a policing purpose when she knew that those checks were carried out solely because she
wanted to check on Mr W before going on a date and/or starting a relationship with him.
The misconduct hearing will also be told that on October 28, PC Lines failed to abide by Force Data Protection Policy in that she accessed the network account of another officer.
It is contended that the alleged breaches both singularly and collectively, if proven, would amount to gross misconduct.
