SOMERSET Christmas market season has officially kick started with a flurry of festive joy at the Monk’s Yard, Ilminster, artisan Christmas Market, hosted by Nest and Nettle.

Thousands flocked to Monk's Yard, located in Horton Manor, Horton Cross, Ilminster this weekend ready for Nest and Nettle's "biggest Christmas market yet".

This winter treat hit like a fleeting snowstorm on Saturday, November 16 from 10am to 4pm and included 40 incredible Southwest based stallholders – a carefully curated mix of creative makers, artisan food and drink producers, jewellers and also those selling intricate vintage wares and trinkets.

A spokesperson for Nest and Nettle said: “Each one was curated for their quality and exceptional talent.”

Nest and Nettle remained open too, along with Monks Yard allowing customers to peruse their Autumn/Winter collections and grab some scrummy hot cocoa, mulled wine and minced pies.

Visitors were truly spoiled for choice with so many award-winning local businesses to choose from, the sights, smells and sounds could get anyone into the holiday spirit despite it only being mid-November still.

Singer John Prescott also wowed the crowds by singing Christmas classics including “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”, adding to the festive vibes and ambience throughout the day with his wonderful swing/jazz style.

"This has honestly been the best way to enter the winter season," a customer spokesperson said. "The Monk's Yard Christmas market will be a hard one to top."

Overall, this event was a true Christmas treat and after visiting with a friend we both left with our arms full of unique products handmade from truly talented South West businesses.
