Ilminster Town Football Club extended their winning streak to 16 consecutive victories in all competitions after a 3-1 win against Clevedon United.
Clevedon, who had previously lost only once this season in the league to Ilminster in August, began the match with determination, missing an early opportunity to score.
The Ilminster team gradually took control of the game, showcasing their passing ability and creating space on the pitch.
A promising move initiated by Harvey Saunders and Josh Phillips on the left flank resulted in Phillips cutting inside and scoring from the edge of the penalty area in the 17th minute, giving Ilminster a 1-0 lead.
Clevedon responded quickly, equalising in the 25th minute when Ilminster's defence failed to handle a right-wing cross, allowing Matt Carpenter to score from close range.
Ilminster's Thomas Lee had a chance to regain the lead, but his shot was saved by the Clevedon goalkeeper.
As the first half progressed, Clevedon had a couple of opportunities but failed to convert them.
A fast break by Ilminster on the half-hour mark saw Phillips crossing the ball into the box, where Drew Stride scored from eight yards out, putting Ilminster ahead 2-1.
Clevedon started the second half strongly, pressing for an equaliser.
However, Ilminster's defence, consisting of Owen Burn, Harry Manley, Tom Case, and Louis Rutter, remained resolute.
The match became a midfield battle with few chances created, although Lee missed a good opportunity for Ilminster.
Ilminster manager Jason Behan kept substitutes Kam Andrews and Paulo Borges on the bench until late in the game due to the tight scoreline.
In injury time, Ilminster secured their victory when Saunders passed to Jack Steer, who squared the ball for Borges to score, making it 3-1.
This win against a formidable Clevedon side further demonstrates Ilminster's momentum as the league campaign nears its halfway point, especially considering the absence of key players Kieran Manley, Taylor Jefferson, and skipper Lee Sweet due to injuries.
Louis Rutter, playing in the back four, was particularly noted for his performance and was awarded the star man award.
Ilminster Town will next face Watchet in a league match on Saturday, kicking off at 2pm.
