Ilminster Town kept their winning run going after an emphatic victory over Stockwood Wanderers.

The Blues thrashed the mid-table team 4-1, thanks to a goal each from Kieran Manley and Taylor Jefferson, and a double from Jack Steer.

With Tunley Athletic pulling out of the Somerset Senior Cup, this was the sole Somerset County Premier match of the day, propelling Ilminster Town back above Nailsea United to the top of the division.

The game saw a significant pause just two minutes in due to a head clash between Owen Burn and a Stockwood defender.

Upon resuming, Stockwood appeared strong and had a few half chances.

However, the Blues took the lead in the 25th minute when Josh Phillips, amidst a goalmouth scramble, managed to poke the ball towards the goal.

Although the keeper saved it, Jack Steer was quick to prod the loose ball home from a yard out.

Stockwood equalised when they surged forward from an Ilminster corner, and a shot flew into the top corner, leaving Shay Allen with no chance.

As the first half progressed, Ilminster regained control with some good football.

Kieran Manley, having received a ball from Jack Steer, deftly bent it around the keeper from an angle, securing a 2-1 lead for his side at halftime.

During the interval, Owen Burn, feeling the after-effects of the head clash, was substituted, as was Kieran Manley due to a leg injury.

Taylor Jefferson and Olly Pearson came off the bench.

The Blues began the second half on a high note, with Lee Sweet's goal-bound shot blocked and Steer's effort cleared off the line.

Sweet then delivered a splendid cross that Jefferson finished across the keeper, making it 3-1.

Shortly after, Jack Steer picked up the ball on the edge of the box and sent it rifling into the back of the net.

At 4-1, Ilminster maintained control for the rest of the game, creating a few half chances to extend their lead.

Ultimately, the team secured the win, taking them three points clear at the top of the table.

Captain Lee Sweet was the star man with an influential performance throughout the match.

Next, Ilminster Town will be playing at home against 8th-positioned Yatton & Cleeve.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 3pm at the Archie Gooch Pavilion.

Yatton & Cleeve have had a mixed run in the Somerset County Premier Division, with four wins, two draws, and four defeats in their first 10 matches.
