THIS year’s Ilminster Carnival fever spread to Herne View Primary School, with the children celebrating the season along with the Ilminster Carnival Committee through their artwork.
The children once again showed their creative talents and enthusiasm in decorating umbrellas that were judged by the official Ilminster Carnival Committee in three different categories of Reception winner, Key Stage 1 winners and Key Stage 2 winners.
Ultimately, this proved a “very difficult task” for the judges and ended up with some additional highly commended awards given out to the students due to the “exceptional standard” of the work displayed.
The umbrellas then came out in the sunshine, to be paraded at the Children’s Carnival - which the school has proudly taken part in for the last eleven years.
This showcase of all the student’s efforts was met with support from pupils, families and staff alike.
Winners were also kindly invited by the Carnival Committee to join the Mayor Cllr Brian Hamilton on a bus in the main carnival, where the students got to enjoy the route through the busy Ilminster streets – along with the “amazing Carnival atmosphere”.
Each class at Herne View Primary School have also shared their carnival celebrations with the community, including the pre-school, through each of the children also designing their own mini carnival floats that have been on display in the showcase window by Ilminster Emporium and in Ilminster Hair and Beauty.
Claire Oaten, Headteacher said: “Carnival is very much part of Ilminster’s culture, and we want this to continue into future generations so as a school we welcome the opportunity to work with the Carnival Committee each year to encourage our pupils to get involved in Carnival and we thank them and Ilminster Hair and Beauty for supporting the pupils and the school.”
