Ilminster Arts Centre has announced two new summer workshops for children.

Thanks to a grant from the Tesco Community Fund, the centre will be able to provide the nature classes at a reduced rate.

The project was awarded second place in Tesco's charity public vote, which enabled the rate to be subsidised to £5 per child.

Margaret Micklewright, an experienced tutor, will lead and organise the upcoming tutorials.

Her workshops, which combine art and the natural world, aim to ignite the creative and exploratory instincts of young learners.

The children will produce original artwork while studying aspects of insects and plant life.

The first workshop, Beautiful Bugs, is set for Wednesday, August 21 from 10am to midday, and caters to children aged from five to nine.

By examining the bugs' complex wings and bodies, youngsters will create both two-dimensional and three-dimensional bug masterpieces.

The second workshop, Plants and Pollinators, is slated for Wednesday, August 28 between 10am and midday, aimed at children aged between 10 and 12.

Participants will hold, illustrate, paint, and build 3D models of flowers and vegetation essential in our ecosystem.

The grant by allows the centre to keep costs low and make art services more available for all children during the summer.

Slots for the workshops are limited, with parents encouraged to register their children early.

For registration or more information, visit https://www.ilminsterartscentre.com/workshops or contact the centre directly at 01460 54973.

The Centre will be hosting even more children-themed events later in the year year.
