Herne View Primary School are ending the school year celebrating a huge award win.
The Ilminster school has been recognised with the School Games Platinum Award.
It reflects the school's commitment to providing an excellent range of sporting provision for students.
The achievement is notable as it involves the efforts of the entire school community in maintaining the profile of sport and encouraging participation by all.
Closely coordinated by PE lead Sian Sainsbury, the provision has supported sporting opportunities through the training and efforts of their young sport leaders.
These students begin their leadership training in Year 5 before continuing it in Year 6.
A spokesperson from the school said: "Their voice has helped in designing PE games and leading competitions and events with children across the school".
In addition to having facilities that offer ample space for a variety of sporting activities, the school has used its Ditton Street multi-use games area (MUGA) for activity breaks and lunchtime play.
Special acknowledgement was given to their excellent peer referees who diligently officiated football games on the MUGA throughout the year.
The school's success in fostering participation in intra-school and inter-school sporting competitions was particularly praised.
Ranging from sports days to friendly matches, students got the chance to take part in a wide array of sporting competitions including hoopball, gymnastics, tag rugby, quad kids, cross country, cricket and several others.
Expressing the school's ethos, they said: "Whilst we have had a lot of success this last year the more important aspect has been in giving our children the opportunity to participate in teams and meet teams from other schools as well."
The school has made efforts to be inclusive, recognising that not all students may enjoy traditional sports, so activities were expanded, offering yoga, orienteering, forest school, and for the first time, bikeability, which was well-received by the students.
The school reiterated their dedication to sports saying: "Sport will always be a key part of the offer at Herne View Primary and we remain committed to maintaining our Platinum standard.
"We look forward to how our sports offer will develop next year."
