A NEW exhibition featuring the works of six local artists has recently been launched at Ilminster Arts Centre.
The exhibition features works by the Blackdown Edge Artists - Annie Musgrove, Keith Crocker, Bev Purdue, Alexandra Lavizzari, Joanna Commings and ceramicist Jenny Sutton Kirby - all of whom are inspired by the natural world around them but use very different techniques and approaches to reflect it.
It is a very unusual combination of work, making a really interesting exhibition.
Keith Crocker’s abstract work compels the viewer’s attention with its harmonious movement.
Annie Musgrove has described her works as “atmospheric and beautiful handling of paint reveals depths of absorbing colour”.
She added: “Bev Purdue’s beautiful work is evocative and rich in expression.
“Alexandra Lavizzari’s work communicates a variety of subjects with deft and sure accomplishment.
“Joanna Commings’ abstract impressionist landscapes in acrylics display bold, colourful mark-making.
“Jenny Sutton Kirby’s beautifully hand-crafted ceramics in a wide range of colours have enormous tactile appeal. “Her paintings of fruit and vegetables display a mastery of technique.
“This exhibition is an unusual opportunity to view such an individual yet harmonious collection of work by local contemporary artists and is well worth a visit.”
The exhibition was launched on May 21 and will be available until Friday, June 7, Tuesday to Saturday, from 9.30am – 3pm
