AN ILMINSTER pub run by a husband-and-wife team has been included in the list of the top 50 Gastropubs in the 35th place.
Chef Alasdair Clifford and Victoria Collins Barrington Boar entered the influential ‘Estrella Top 50 Gastropubs List’ last night (Monday, January 22) at the party hosted by last year’s winners The Parkers Arms in Lancashire.
The Barrington Boar entered the list for the first time last year in the 97th place, after a solid year of accolades including recommendations in both The MICHELIN Guide United Kingdom 2023 and Harden’s Guide.
They were also finalists at the 2023 Trencherman’s Awards for Best Pub and namechecked in Conde Nast Traveller’s prestigious ‘Best Places to Go in the UK in 2024’ list.
The annual ‘Estrella Top 50 Gastropubs List’ is created by collecting votes from over 200 industry names, including food critics, chefs, and pub operators.
The voters are spread evenly across the UK to avoid regional bias and to help discover local hidden gems.
The Unruly Pig in Suffolk was revealed as the UK’s best gastropub for the second time, putting it back on top against some of the best pub operators in the business, including strong competition from The Cornish Arms in Tavistock (#2) and The Mariners (#3) - both in Cornwall.
Ed Bedington, editor of the Morning Advertiser, the pub industry’s main publication and the founders of the awards, said: “Pubs are a beloved institution and part of the UK’s culture, and this list of the most astounding and impressive food pubs in the country is wonderful to see.
“Pubs serve so many roles to so many people, and for operators like the Unruly Pig and all of our list, to be able to offer amazing food and wonderful experiences, up there with some of the best in fine dining, is brilliant to see.”
The Barrington Boar is a country pub and restaurant with rooms, offering a warm welcome, Modern British cooking, and refined comfort food in the heart of the South Somerset countryside.
Situated in the picturesque village of Barrington, nestled between Langport and Ilminster, this critically acclaimed pub is run by husband-and-wife team Chef Alasdair Clifford and Victoria Collins.
