A NEW luxury holiday site in Ilminster will mark King Charles’ coronation by planting an oak tree that will be linked to an existing one commemorating Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.
Adam Hilling will launch his new eco holiday business Oakwater Escapes in Sea, near Ilminster, on Friday, May 5, during the coronation weekend (the coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6).
Mr Hilling said that as part of the launch he will plant an oak tree on site to celebrate King Charles III’s coronation and commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, for which an oak tree was planted in the same field back in 1887 by the Willy family.
The event will be attended by a school, the mayor and deputy mayor of Ilminster, Ilminster Green, and is set to bring the whole community together.
Mr Hilling, who lives on site, said: “On May 5 I will be opening my new business, a luxury eco holiday site in Sea, Ilminster, named Oakwater Escapes.
“As part of the opening, I will be planting an oak tree to celebrate the coronation of King Charles and a school will attend to plant a time capsule.
“The tree has become the logo of my business. So I thought it would have been nice to plant a new one with my family and some members of the Willy family and have a synergy in place to signify the launch of the business.
“The mayor and deputy mayor as well as Green Ilminster and the Ilminster Heritage Group will be attending too.
“The town of Ilminster is in full support of this event and has added it to its calendar of events for the coronation weekend.
“The launch and planting are linked to an existing oak I have in my field which was planted by the Willy family in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
“I have managed to track down three different descendants of the Willy family who are travelling from as far as Glasgow and will also be coming to the launch.”
The launch will begin at 2pm on May 5 in Oaklea, Sea, Ilminster, TA19 0SB
