IT'S proving to be a busy World Book Day at Shepton Beauchamp Church School today (Thursday, March 2).

Throughout the day a loud bell rings at random times, when everybody has to drop everything and read.

Wherever children and staff are in the school when the bell rings, the nearest book has to be picked up and read.

Stan and Martha from Year 3, the school’s librarians, have spent the week building a new Book Nook for children to use during playtimes and lunchtimes.

Stan said: “We loved building the Book Nook. It is so cosy.”

Martha said: “I really hope lots of children use the new Book Nook. It’s lovely in there.”

Throughout the day, guest readers from the community have been dropping into the school to read their favourite books to the children.

Who knew Rev Geoff’s favourite book was the Gruffalo?

Executive headteacher Connel Bolye said: “It is amazing the extra energy we have all felt in school today.

"The excitement and love for books from the children has brought tears to all of our teachers eyes.

"My thanks to everyone for bringing this altogether.”
