TWO South Somerset schools will have new headteachers from September.
Richard Burgas takes charge at Wadham School, Crewkerne, where there will be a new intake of more than 300 pupils across three year groups as the upper school moves to a secondary school.
He has previously served as head across Dorset schools.
Herne View Church of England Primary School, Ilminster, has appointed Claire Oaten as its first headteacher.
She is currently head at Greenfylde Church of England First School, in Ilminster, and is already working towards ensuring Herne View is ready for all pupils in September.
Herne View - located on the site of the former Greenfylde and Swanmead Schools - will educate pupils to the age of 11, when they may mo - ve to Wadham School, in Crewkerne, for their secondary education.
A total of £3.5million has been invested into schools across the Crewkerne and Ilminster area to improve facilities. Investment includes staff training, ICT equipment and property improvement.
Mr Burgas said: "I have nearly 20 years’ experience in education, having taught and worked in three schools across Dorset.
"Originally an MFL teacher, I have been a senior leader since 2007, having worked as a director of sixth form, designated lead for children in care and as a teaching and learning lead.
"Securing my first headship in 2016, the last six years have been both challenging and rewarding in bringing a community together with a shared aim of improving the life chances of the children we serve.
"I'm looking forward to applying my skills and experiences in support of the community at Wadham School.”
Miss Oaten said: “As a headteacher who has worked in the town for nine years, I appreciate the value a school brings to a community and know the new Herne View Church of England Primary School will offer much to our children and families.
"Herne View and its pre-school Apple Orchard will continue to ensure our children have the opportunities and experiences in their learning and wider school lives to give them the strong foundation they need for future learning, citizenship and lifelong ambition.”
Cllr Tessa Munt, Somerset County Council executive lead for children and families, said: “These two appointments mean parents and teachers can have utmost confidence they are in good hands for the coming school years."
