A FORMER mayor of Ilminster passed away peacefully at his home in Crewkerne on May 14.

Anthony Goverd, known as Tony, was 90-years-old when he died.

He was Mayor of Ilminster between 1980 and 1982, as well as 1987 until 1989.

A spokesperson for Ilminster Town Council said: “We were saddened to learn of the recent death of a former Mayor of Ilminster, Anthony Lionel Goverd, also known as Tony.

“He was Mayor between 1980-1982 and 1987-1989.

“We would like to send condolences to all of his family and friends at this sad time.”

Tony was the husband of the late Trish Goverd, and dad to Sara and Jo, step-dad to Paul, Jinny and the late Julie.

He was also a ‘treasured’ grandad and great grandad.
