A TOWN was ‘buzzing’ with excitement last week as a popular event returned to Ilminster.
And despite the rain calling off the last day - visitors still enjoyed many events on Saturday (June 26).
The heavy rain on Sunday was a ‘huge disappointment’ for organisers of the Ilminster Midsummer Experience (IMEx), but visitors flocked to the town centre on Saturday for the Ilminster Food and Craft Market, and the Suitcase Market.
“It was a perfect day and everyone was just so pleased to be able to get about and meet friends,” said Experience Ilminster chairman Mike Fry-Foley.
“It was quite a task to remain socially distanced but it goes to show people are very responsible about keeping Covid-safe.
“Sadly the capricious British summer weather turned on us on Sunday and we had heavy rain at the start of the day with more forecast during the day.
“We had to cancel all events on the Recreation Ground including the Classic Vehicle Show and dance/circus performances by the superb Motionhouse.
“This was a huge disappointment.
"Volunteers had put a huge amount of work into organising the events and we had a record 220+ vehicles booked for the car show.”
The strolling garage sale still managed to take place, with 41 households joining in.
