Crewkerne town centre is set to buzz with excitement next weekend when an annual fairground and market, dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, makes its return.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District, the Charter Fair and Sunday Street Market will take place from Friday, September 6 to Sunday, September 8.

Edward Danter's Funfair will kick off the festivities at 4.45pm on the Friday and at 12pm on the Saturday, running until 10pm on both days.

Crowd favourites, including the Oxygen ride, will make a return.

The Mayor of Crewkerne will officially open the Fair at 5pm on the Friday, followed by a lively samba dance performance at 6pm.

The Sunday Street Market, opening at 10am, will feature more than thirty stalls to browse, until it concludes at 2pm with the drawing of Rotary's annual Grand Raffle.

Also part of Sunday's programme are a belly dancing display and music from a traditional organ grinder.

Tracy Brown, president of the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District, said: "I encourage everyone to join us in town over the weekend and enjoy this treasured English tradition, which in Crewkerne’s case dates back to the 12th century."
