THIS Thursday, June 6, will mark 80 years since the historic Normandy Landings which sparked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe.
Events to commemorate the historic occasion known to most as D-Day will be taking place across the nation.
In Crewkerne, the town council has planned proceedings to commemorate the monumental occasion.
The D-Day 80 commemorations will begin at 8am on Thursday morning, and hopes to commemorate the heroes of the Battle of Normandy.
At 8am, the Town Crier will read the D-Day proclamation outside the town hall to kickstart proceedings.
At 9am, the flag of peace will be raised on the town hall.
At 11am, the Town Crier will repeat the proclamation outside the town hall, for those who missed it at 8am.
Finally, in the evening at 9:15pm, an international tribute will take place, alongside the lighting of the lamp of peace at Severalls War Memorial.
