A FARMER is experiencing an anxious wait to discover whether his ewes will lose their lambs following a dog attack.
The pregnant ewes were fortunate to survive the incident on a farm in North Perrott thanks to the intervention of a vet.
The attack took place between 2.30pm on Sunday (February 6) and 7am the following morning.
A South Somerset Neighbourhood Policing team spokesperson said: "The ewes suffered a dog attack at a farm in North Perrott.
"Thankfully, after vet intervention, these ewes survived. However, these ewes are in lamb and it is unknown whether they will."
The spokesperson added: "Livestock worrying occurs when dogs chase animals, injure and/or kill them.
"When walking over farmland you must ensure your dog is kept under control at all times, ideally on a lead.
"If your dog attacks livestock you could end up being responsible for offences including criminal damage, livestock worrying and potential prosecution for offences under the Dangerous Dog Act.
