WADHAM School and Holyrood School in Chard, Somerset have both announced they are closing early today (Thursday, November 21) due to "adverse weather conditions".
Through working in close discussion with the transport team from both schools, regarding traffic updates, they ultimately decided that the best solution in ensuring the safe transport of students from school to home would be to finish the school day early.
The same consideration extends to staff and parents as well.
Wadham School
Wadham School changed the remainder of today to have an extended break until 11.45am, after which students would remain in tutor rooms until 12.30pm.
During this time the parents were contacted and the school closed from 12.30pm onwards.
Holyrood Academy
Buses instead arrived at 12.45pm
The school closed at 1pm.
Quotes from the head teachers
Richard Burgas, head teacher for Wadham School said: "With roads becoming increasingly treacherous and to ensure our buses will be able to make the journey from school to home, we have taken the decision to close the school early. This also means journeys in the dark can be avoided."
Mr Dave McCormick, head teacher for Holyrood Academy said: "We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience closing early may cause, but the safety of our students and staff is our top priority."
