TWO fires have broken out in Chard in the first four days of November, with one occurring in a VW Golf in Spicer Way, and another occurring in Henderson Drive residential area.
Both fires occurred less than two weeks after the believed arson attack on a Chard outhouse.
This morning a fire broke out in Spicer Way, Chard, involving a VW Golf that was described by the Chard crew as “well alight”.
Chard fire control received a call this morning (Monday, November 4) at around 7.14am reporting a vehicle on fire.
Upon the arrival of the Chard crew on scene, the Volkswagen was completely ablaze, and the team proceeded to fight the fire for over an hour, eventually leaving the scene at around 9am.
The team eventually extinguished the flames using water and foam jets, two breathing apparatus, compressed air foam, one hose reel and a thermal imaging camera.
The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental but there was lingering fire damage to the passenger compartment of the car.
A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "the car suffered severe damage."
This incident occurred only two days after a property fire took place in Henderson Drive, Chard.
On November 2 Chard, Taunton and Axminster fire stations received calls reporting a fire within a residential property in Hendersen Drive, Chard at 5pm.
On arrival, the crews reported a fire in the laundry room of a hotel and restaurant building and got to work extinguishing.
It took the crews two hours of fighting the blaze before they eventually left the scene.
To put out the flames they used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one positive pressure fan, thermal imaging camera and one CO2 monitor.
In the end the hotel fire was also declared accidental, with the resultant damage mostly confined to the tumble dryer. However, there was also 50% smoke damage to the annexe on the first and second floor.
