A CHARD man in his 20s has died in hospital, almost two weeks after suffering a motorcycle crash near Bridport.

The incident occurred just before 6.42pm on Saturday, October 5, on the A35 west of Bridport near Eype.

It was a "single-vehicle" road traffic collision involving a silver Yamaha motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries and passed away 12 days later on the morning of Thursday, October 17.

Dorset Police said in a statement: "We can confirm that a man who sustained serious injuries following a road traffic collision near Bridport has very sadly died.

"Dorset Police received a report at 6.42pm on Saturday 5 October 2024 of a single vehicle collision involving a silver Yamaha motorcycle on the A35 west of Bridport near Eype.

"Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist, a man aged in his 20s from Chard in Somerset, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. Very sadly, he died in hospital on the morning of Thursday 17 October 2024.

"His family has been informed and is being supported by specially-trained officers."

Sergeant Mike Burt, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family of the young man who sadly died following this collision.

“We owe it to them to carry out a detailed investigation to establish the full circumstances of the incident and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to please make contact with us.”
