A COFFEE morning will be held later this month in memory of a “loving family man”.
Rah Warren is organising the annual coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and remember her dad, Guy Warren, who died in 2009.
She is hoping to reach a total of £20,000 pounds for the charity by the end of this year.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 9.30am to 1.30pm, at Chard Guildhall.
Rha said: “This is in memory of my dad, Guy Warren.
“The event will include tea, coffee, and lots of homemade cake, a raffle, a silent auction, and ‘guess the name of the teddy’.
“My family and I have held annual coffee mornings, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of my dad, Guy Warren.
“We very sadly lost our dad in 2009, just 19 days after his cancer diagnosis, at the age of 49.
“Macmillan provided an extraordinary service from providing the care and support that my dad required, to supporting us as a family until long after we suffered the loss of our dad.
“It is undeniable that without Macmillan, my dad’s last 19 days would not have been as comfortable as they were, which they enabled him to be at home, surrounded by his family who loved him and thought the world of him.
“Our dad was, and still is, the centre of our world. An incredibly hard-working man and an unconditionally loving family man with a pure heart of gold.
“He was married to his childhood sweetheart for 29 years and dearly loved their children and grandchildren.
“Since losing our dad, it has been our desire and focus to raise money for Macmillan, not only to thank them for their care but to support them to continually provide their myriads of services.
“I take comfort that although the time has gone for my dad, we are still able to do good onto others and help to ease their heartache by helping Macmillan to continue providing their invaluable support.
“These fundraising events also enable us as a family to keep the life and memory of my dad alive, and to reminisce on our special times, which means more to me than words can express.
“Just one week of care provided by Macmillan costs £1000, which demonstrates just how important it is that Macmillan receives as much fundraising support as possible.
“Over the years, Macmillan has sent many handwritten cards to personally thank us for our fundraising events, which shows how appreciative they are of the support they receive.
“We are incredibly grateful to all who have continued to support us each year, and the many businesses who very kindly donate many wonderful prizes for our raffle and silent auction. We simply couldn't do it without you.”
