Chard Town FC are set to celebrate 100 years of playing at their home ground, Zembard Lane this month.

The milestone will be marked on Tuesday, September 17, with a Somerset Senior League fixture against Worle FC.

Chard Town FC first played at Zembard Lane on September 17, 1924, after being formed in March 1921 and initially playing at Bonfire Close.

Over the years, Zembard Lane has seen a series of developments:

  • Refreshments hut added in 1948
  • Changing hut added in the 1950s
  • Floodlights first installed in 1953 (before being blown down in a storm in 1961)
  • Grandstand replaced with the current clubhouse in 1974 (in order to meet Western League entry requirements)
  • Current floodlight system installed in 1985
  • Chard Town returns to the Somerset Senior League in 2019
