A CAMPERVAN has been destroyed by fire on the A30 near Upottery.
The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service was alerted to the fire by the police at 11.36pm on Friday (September 6).
Crews from Chard, Ilminster and Honiton were sent to the scene, plus a water carrier from Danes Castle in Exeter.
They used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the campervan, which was described as “well alight”.
A Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire control received an emergency call from the police reporting a camper van on fire on the A30.
“Crews from Honiton, Chard, Ilminster and a water carrier from Danes Castle were immediately mobilised.
“They successfully extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, one 55m jet with compressed air foam and one thermal image camera.
“The vehicle has unfortunately sustained 100 per cent fire damage and believed to be accidental ignition.”
