THE Chard Town Crier has revealed on how the town plans to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day this weekend.
Thursday, June 6, will mark 80 years since the historic Normandy Landings which sparked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe.
At 8am, the Town Crier will launch the proceedings with the official proclamation from the Guildhall balcony.
It will be read once more later on, prior to the commemorative beacon lighting set to take place in the evening at 9:15pm.
Further evening proceedings will begin at 6:15pm, with entertainment and stalls planned.
Speaking ahead of the day, the Town Crier said: "This Thursday, June 6, at 08:00 from The Guildhall balcony, I have the absolute honour of launching the 80 year celebrations of D-Day here in Chard with the official proclamation in conjunction with Town Criers around the globe.
"I will again read the proclamation just prior to the beacon being lit at 21:15, the time beacons are lit across our great nation.
"I am really honoured also to be reading a poem written by Chard poet Clive Saunders.
"The celebrations will start at 18.15 at the beacon with entertainment and stalls."
