IT'S been a mixed weekend of results at Chard Cricket Club.
The club's 1st team suffered a defeat to Wembdon 1st on Saturday, June 1.
Despite the best efforts of Malcolm Cloete, who scored 77 runs in 82 balls, and Jon Dalwood, who performed impressively with bowling figures of 10-2-42-2, they were unable to save the team from the 73-run defeat.
Wembdon's opening batters Harry Everett and Will Anning were particularly impressive, while Sri Lankan all-rounder Lohan de Zoysa was also in fine form.
The final scoreboard recorded Wembdon with a score of 239-7 in 50 overs, while Chard was left behind on 166 in 47.4 overs.
The 2s team, however, emerged victorious over Taunton Deane 3s.
Chard skipper Joe Draper led a stunning bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 20 runs.
Trailing behind at 23-2, Chard found their stride with Jon Scott and Liam Cleal's remarkable partnership, propelling them to a 6-wicket win with scores of 60 and 44 respectively.
The game ended with Chard scoring 142-4 in 31 overs, following Deane's 137 all out in 39.3 overs.
Victories did not end there, as the 3s team also celebrated success over Ilminster 4s.
It was all centred around a solid performance from Paul Grinter, who bagged 74 runs and 3 wickets for 26 runs.
Chard was able to round up a total of 221-9 in 40 overs.
Despite a resistance from Ilminster with Sainsbury scoring 88, the team crumbled for 154 in 35.2 overs.
Steve Dening additionally contributed with decent bowling figures of 7.2-1-9-3.
Chard Cricket Club’s Sunday A team also clinched victory against Street on June 2.
Harvey Evans celebrated his birthday with a remarkable innings of 101, while Joseph Barrows made an impression taking 6 wickets for 25 runs.
The result displayed Chard at 185 in 37.2 overs, firmly ahead of Street's 70 in 8.3 overs.
However, the weekend did end in disappointment when Chard Ladies went up against Buckhorn & Weston.
Despite early success, they were unable to stand against their strong opponents who secured a win after 8 overs.
Chard Ladies wrapped up at 78-3 in 20 overs while Buckhorn & Weston ended the game at 79-0.
