A SCHOOL of musical theatre opened its doors in Chard for the very first time last week.
Bethany Brown’s School of Musical Theatre opened on Saturday, April 20.
The school had 27 children signed up ready and raring to be taught the disciplines of singing, dancing, and acting by industry professionals - Bethany Goodman, Darcy Berkley, and Addison Coath.
Owner Bethany Brown said: “This has been a dream of mine for years and years and to see it materialise before my eyes was just a feeling unlike any other.
“To see the children smiling, laughing, having fun, and already producing some really impressive stuff in all three disciplines was exactly what the dreams were made of.
“They all left saying how excited they are to come back next week and to work towards our first showcase which will be open to the public on July 20 this year.”
Here is what some of the children said.
Pip Steele, 9, said: “I was very nervous but as soon as I walked in there were friendly faces all around me, the classes were fun, the teachers were nice and it was really enjoyable.
"I learned a dance, and a song, I did some acting and games and I’m really looking forward to next week.”
Hannah and Deleshia Wickramaratne, 6 and 8, said: “Myself and Deleshia had a great time at the Drama school. We can't wait for next weekend.”
Erin Fish, 16, said: “I had a great time at BB’s everyone was very welcoming. Each group was small enough to get to know each other.
“I loved focusing in smaller groups on each area of dance, drama, and singing. By the end, it felt like one big family.”
Meg Pike, 13, said: “I enjoyed the first session at Betsy’s school. All the teachers were fun, kind, and very welcoming.
“The groups were small and it created a safe environment where everyone was having a good time.”
Ava Larcombe, 15, said: “I found the teachers to be really friendly and welcoming and the classes were both fun and productive.
“It was so lovely to be with a group of people who shared the same interests as myself.
Anna Penny, 15, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the first session. I thought all of the teachers were incredibly friendly and all knew how to help people when they got stuck.
“This is one of the best things I've ever done. If you want, or your child wants to go into the performing arts industry, or even take part in a club, I really recommend coming to BB's.”
Lottie Brake, 10, said: “Today was my first lesson at Bethany Brown’s School of Musical Theatre and I was introduced to my three teachers.
"I enjoyed an hour of dancing, singing, and theatre. I am really excited to go to all the other sessions to come, and I’m looking forward to preparing for the show."
The school has closed its books for this term, however, they are welcoming more children ages 6-18 to join the theatre school from September.
