A GROUP of Chard students will perform its show in a Bristol theatre later this month.
Holyrood Academy’s students are joining the National Theatre Connections with their Kiss/Marry/Push Off Cliff show.
The students involved range from Year 10 to Year 13 and will work on every aspect of putting on the show, from the acting to the lighting, sound, and costume design.
Lewis Massey, drama teacher, said: “Taking part in National Theatre Connections is a fantastic opportunity for us here at Holyrood Academy.
“Connections is a wonderful scheme by the National Theatre that has run for 29 years. Its purpose is to bring theatre to the nation and not just to London.
“Something that I feel is not only exciting for the school and its students but also for Chard and the surrounding area due to the absence of a major theatre.
“Our show Kiss/Marry/Push Off Cliff will be performed at Holyrood on March 14th and 15th, before perhaps most excitingly, the students will take the show to the Bristol Old Vic on March 19th to perform it there.
“Offering our students an insight into the day in the life of a professional actor/stage technician.
“We have 17 incredible students involved in the process.
“The students range from Year 10 to Year 13 and are involved in every aspect of putting on the show, from the acting to the lighting, sound, and costume design.
“The students involved are a joy to work with and I cannot wait for people to come and see it. Each of the students deserves so much credit.
“Our lead roles go to Will Lees as Marco, Flora Godfrey as Ricky, Martha Godfrey as Kiara, Sam Rand as Tamer, James Green as Carl, Saara Hedditch as Noush, Tosia Gola as Franky, and perhaps conveniently Jessica Squires as Jess.
“All supported by a fantastic ensemble of Kathryn Owens, Kai Taylor, Sophie Poole, Rose Davies, Holly Tucker, Amelia Saladiak, Morgan Eggins, and Maja Kopec.
“With Samuel Dunn running our show in the tech department.
“We have been working hard since we came back from October half-term on putting on the show, just after I had been to complete three days worth of workshops and networking at the National Theatre, including getting to meet and spend the day with Josh Azouz, the playwright of Kiss/Marry/Push Off Cliff.
“I am so proud of the hard work they have put in so far in rehearsals and I cannot wait for them to experience what it is like to perform in a professional setting, just as I felt when I took part in National Theatre Connections when I was in Year 12 myself.”
